Daredevil Trailer Review

The Man Without Fear is Back!

I was originally going to open this blog with a review on The Walking Dead’s fifth season after it’s last episode aired, but after watching the trailer for Marvel’s Daredevil I couldn’t wait to talk about it. I grew up with comics and am especially a huge fan of Marvel’s Spider-Man and DC’s Batman. Granted, Daredevil didn’t used to be high on my reading list, but I still did flip through the occasional issue my parents bought.

One of the weakest points the 2003 movie adaption had, was though trying to stay true to the source material, writer and director Mark Steven Johnson did not understand the character of Matt Murdoch. Netflix on the contrary seems to understand where this character came from perfectly.

The show features Charlie Cox as Matt Murdoch/Daredevil, something I was worried about, as he is rather known for the romantic character type on big screen movies. After listening to his voiceover however, all my doubts where blown away.

Joining the cast as Murdoch’s nemesis Wilson Fisk (a.k.a. The Kingpin) is Vincent D’Onofrio, and him I am very excited about! He proved more then once to be an actor able to portray a character with deep layers, and he has the perfect physic to be the Kingpin. I did love Michael Clark Duncan in the 2003 movie, but I am sure D’Onofrio will own the role.

What I gathered from the trailer is that this superhero series is going down a much darker and brutal path, something I am really exited for as Daredevil is Marvel’s equivalent of Batman. This run on the character seems to focus on his origin rather then jumping straight into his years as the “Guardian Devil”, and I can’t wait to see how each episode depicts his progression into becoming the hero we know.

Marvel’s Daredevil belongs to a five-part TV series project, including A.k.a. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, culminating in the miniseries The Defenders. How these TV shows will be build into the MCU is as yet to be seen. However, after seeing the trailer, I am confident that Netflix will do a grand job with it, and I am anxious to see how these grittier heroes will contrast the lighter atmosphere of the Avengers.

To celebrate the start of this series, I will be reviewing the Daredevil theatrical and directors cut adaption of 2003. So if you are interested keep an eye out during the next few weeks.
